“The Murals of Bethesda”

Illuminated underpass and old murals in central park bethesda terrace new york city

Bethesda Terrace, May 2008. New York City, NY.

Just a typical late evening at Bethesda Terrace after a recent, lengthy renovation.

While I have always admired the aging, somewhat decrepit, murals lining the underpass and the dim lighting that allowed for a considerably more moody and gritty ambience, I suppose there is no standing in the way of progress. The freshly-tiled ceiling segments add a touch of contemporary flash to the subtle, timeless strength of the original architecture.
